Christmas highlights in Paris

Any time of the year Paris proves to always be enchanting and romantic. And during the Christmas season, Paris becomes even more alluring; so get ready to mingle with the inhabitants during the busy holiday season and delight in the holiday season as much as they do.

The city of light truly lives up to her signature name during this time of year. Leisurely stroll up the Champs-Elyses toward the Arc de Triomphe and notice every tree along the way illuminates in garlands of glistening energy efficient light.

Don’t miss out on the ice skating rink in front of the Hotel de Ville. It has become a yearly tradition for celebratory Parisians. Even if you do not partake in the skating, it is delightful to stand back, watch and feel the energy of others. There’s something about a skating rink that makes a season feel festive. You can also ice skate at the Eiffel Tower at the rink, located 57 meters above the glittering city of Paris.

Christmas booths are popular in Paris and are dotted all around the city. You won’t miss them with their wood-roofed booths selling vin chaud (cinnamon-infused hot wine), cheerful decorations for the tree, gourmet treats and small crafted gifts. The gifts make for a wonderful item to bring back to those that are missing the experience of Paris during the holiday season. Chanukah is not forgotten in Paris either. Menorah lighting celebrations add to Paris’ holiday-season charm.

At dusk, book one of the Batobus tours that sail along leisurely on the Seine. Use it as a hop-on hop-off boat that is decked out with its Christmas finery. It may seem touristy but is simply too good to not miss while floating along and keeping warm.

Besides all the enjoyable and available museums you can visit during the day; Paris is a work of art in itself especially at night. Watch the Eiffel Tower twinkle among the stars, Notre Dame’s immense Gothic presence protruding in the darken skies and other architectural gems drifting by slowly, as you remark I am in Paris!

All the stores are adorned for Christmas with decorations. Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps (two of the larger department stores) are ornamented with lights and their front windows are decorated with automaton figures depicting a different scene each year. At Galeries, indulge in a cooking class they offer to
